With this online tool, you can protect secret information by redacting certain patterns or phrases of the given text. Several popular use cases of this tool include concealing personal information such as names and surnames, addresses, and phone numbers, as well as blacking out other confidential data that you don't want others to see. In the options, you can list patterns, phrases, or words that need to be hidden and configure how to redact them. Specifically, in the multi-line option "Patterns to Hide", you can list everything that needs to be anonymized (one pattern/phrase/word per line). To simplify the process, you can activate the "Case Sensitive Patterns" option, which will immediately match both uppercase and lowercase patterns. In this example, we wanted to share a short description of our apartment and the neighborhood on a message board but to prevent fraudsters from knowing where we live and taking advantage of the open information about us, we hid our address in the description text. To do it, we replaced the string "71 River", which is our address with a question mark symbol in brackets "[?]".
In this example, we conceal information about two participants in the results of a meditation study. We use a single word "PARTICIPANT" to replace the names Tom and Sarah, and now the experiment results no longer contain any personal data.
In this example, we're announcing the release of our new product. As it's only the beta version of the product, we decided to hide its name for now as it may change later. To do this, we switched on the anonymize text using symbols option and entered the ░ character to use for hiding. We also activated the "Full Symbol Fill" option so that the hiding symbol is repeated as many times as there are letters in the product's name. We also turned off the case-sensitive option so that the product's name written in lowercase in the hashtag was also concealed.
