With this online tool, you can remove one or more prefixes from text lines. The prefixes can be letters, numbers, symbols, substrings, words, phrases, or patterns, and they must appear at the beginning of the text. You can switch between three prefix removal modes. The first one is called "Prefix in Front of Text" and it removes only one prefix, which is at the very beginning of the input text on the first line. The second mode is called "Prefix in Front of Each Line" and it removes the unwanted prefix from the beginning of each individual text line. The third mode is called "Prefix in Front of Each Paragraph" and it gets rid of prefixes at the beginning of each text paragraph (paragraphs are blocks of text that are separated one from another by at least one empty line). The prefixes you want to remove can be specified in the "Prefix Patterns" option. If there is more than one such prefix, then you can list them all here by putting each on a new line. By default, the prefix's letter case is not taken into account, but if you want to remove only a certain prefix with a specific letter case, then you can activate the "Case Sensitive Prefixes" option. If the prefix is capitalized and it's removed from the beginning of a line, then you can make the first word of the line to be capitalized as well by turning on the "Restore Line Case" option. In this example, we remove just one prefix that appears at the very beginning of the text. We turn on the "Prefix in Front of Text" mode and enter the word "Gray " in the prefix patterns option. To preserve the case of the sentence and update the first letter to the capital letter, we activate the "Restore Sentence Case" option.
In this example, we load a list of fantasy book chapters and remove the chapter symbols "§" from them. To apply the prefix removal algorithm to each line individually, we switch on the "Prefix in Front of Each Line" option. We also enable the "Deep Prefix Removal" mode to completely get rid of all repeated prefix characters.
In this example, we delete case-sensitive prefixes from the beginning of text paragraphs. Since the text uses two words that are spelled the same way but have a different meaning, we select the "Case Sensitive Prefixes" mode and enter the uppercase prefix "WHO" in the option. This way, the program removes only the word "WHO", which is an abbreviation for "World Health Organization", and leaves the regular word "Who" unchanged.
