With this online tool, you can normalize the number of spaces, tabs, and newlines between words and lines in any text. Space normalization is a fancy word for changing the number of whitespace characters between words to the same quantity everywhere in your text file. For example, if you're working with justified text (when words on every text line are stretched to the full width of the page, creating a lot of redundant spaces between words), then you can normalize this justified text and change all these redundant spaces to just a single space. Our program can also be used to reduce the vertical spacing between individual text lines (that sometimes happens if text is copied from a web page) and to change the number of tabs between table columns to just one tab. You can normalize spaces, newlines, and tabs separately by using convenient checkboxes in the options. By default, the spacing in text is set to one character (i.e. one space, one newline, one tab), but you can also normalize text to two, three, or any other number symbols. You can also enter zero as the normalization parameter and in that case all words, lines, or columns will be joined together (spacing will be removed). Textabulous!

In this example, we normalize spaces in Oscar Wilde's quote. When we copied it from a PDF document, somehow multiple consecutive spaces appeared and it made it very hard to work with this text. To do the cleanup, we activate the "Normalize Spaces" checkbox and set the number of spaces between words to one symbol.
In this example, we remove extra empty line breaks and reduce the vertical spacing between text lines in a list. We put just one line break character after each line and create compact output list containing the most popular types of cheese.
In this example, we normalize tab spacing in a list of animals and their habitats. In the loaded list there's a variable amount of tabs (varying from one to four) between the name of the animal and its habitat and it's hard to use this list in Excel. To create a neat two-column list, we select the tab normalization mode and set exactly one tab character between columns.
You can pass input to this tool via ?input query argument and it will automatically compute output. Here's how to type it in your browser's address bar. Click to try!
