With this online tool, you can delete the beginning part of every word in the given text. The beginning part of a word is called a prefix (also known as an affix). For example, in the word "uneven", the prefix is "un", and with this program, you can delete all such prefixes. Besides letter prefixes, it can also delete symbols, punctuation marks, and emojis that precede the target words. In the "Prefix Patterns" option, you can enter as many different patterns as you need to by using a separate line for each of them. If the "Case Sensitive Prefix" option is active, then the uppercase and lowercase prefixes can be removed separately by entering each prefix in its original case. If this option is disabled, then regardless of the prefix case, all prefixes of words matching the same characters will be deleted. There is also another option in the program called "Preserve Capitalized Words". It can be useful when the prefix is at the beginning of a sentence and starts with an uppercase letter. In this case, when the prefix is removed, the uppercase letter is transferred to the word and the word will have a capitalized format in the output. The next option is the "Cover All Prefixes", which covers all entered prefixes and removes as many layers of repeated prefixes as possible from each word. For example, it can completely clear words with hyperhashtags, such as "#!#love" or remove all multiple "re" prefixes from the word "rereconnect". In this example, we remove the "un" prefix from a group of words that denote the absence of a particular quality or state. As soon as we enter this prefix in the options, we get a list of positive character traits that have the opposite meaning. During the conversion, we also keep the option "Preserve Capitalized Words" active, so that each word retains its original case.
In this example, we copy and pasted a report of the current work status of our company from Slack and as a result, several employees' names had the special username character "@" at the beginning of their names. As some of the names somehow had more than one symbol prepended, we activated the "Cover All Prefixes" option to recursively remove multiple repeated layers of prefixes.
In this example, we remove the short two-letter ISO 3166 country codes from city names in France and Italy. To do this, we enter two capitalized prefixes "FR" and "IT" in the option, one per line. As some of the city names are hyphenated, such as "FRSaint-FRDenis", we activate the "Unprefix Hyphenated Words" option to remove prefixes from each hyphenated word separately. And to make sure not to remove the first two letters of a city name itself (such as "Fresnes"), we activate the "Case Sensitive Prefixes" mode. In this mode "FR" and "Fr" are two different prefixes.
