With this online tool, you can remove diacritical marks from any text. Diacritical marks (diacritics for short) are various ascender and descender marks that, in combination with a letter, change its sound, tone, stress, and sometimes even meaning. The five most popular diacritics are the acute accent ("áéíóú"), the grave accent ("àèìòù"), circumflex ("âêîôû"), the two dots/diaeresis ("äëïöü"), and the caron/hachek ("ǎěǐǒǔ"). Diacritics are used in almost all languages of the world. For example, they can be found in the Swedish language – there are 3 letters with accents "å", "ä", and "ö", in the Slovak language – "č", "š", "ž", and in the Czech alphabet there are 15 such letters "á", "č", "ď", "é", "ě", "í", "ň", "ó", "ř", "š", "ť", "ú", "ů", "ý", and "ž". They are also found in French, Spanish, and German languages. Structurally, a diacritic can be a single glyph, such as "à", or a combination of a single Latin letter and a standalone accent, such as "a" plus "◌̿" becomes "a̿". These empty accent characters "◌̀", "◌́", "◌̈", "◌̊" (and many others) are called combining characters. They can also be stacked and added in multiple layers to any letter from any alphabet. This program cleans the text from all types of diacritical marks and returns the text consisting of only standard Latin letters. If you want to leave certain letters with diacritics, then you can enter them in the "Ignore Letters" option. Textabulous!

In this example, we translated text from French but the translation program accidentally left accent marks on some of the letters. To get rid of them, we pasted this text as the input in our tool and got plain English text as the output.
This example takes heavily garbled text as input, with many dialectical signs above and below the letters. We clear the text of all these diacritics but make an exception for the letter "å" by entering it in the ignore option.
In this example, we clear a list of fantasy creatures from an excessive amount of combining characters. Text with an accumulation of combining symbols is known as "Zalgo Text" and our program can clean it up easily.
You can pass input to this tool via ?input query argument and it will automatically compute output. Here's how to type it in your browser's address bar. Click to try!
