With this online tool, you can quickly find specific paragraphs in a large text. A paragraph is a block of text that is separated by at least one blank line above (or below) from the rest of the text and our program offers three filtering methods that you can use to find the paragraphs that you need. They include filtering by a keyword (or multiple keywords), by an alphanumeric symbol set, or by a regular expression. In the "Keyword Filtering Mode" option, you can enter one or more keywords (one per line) and the program will immediately display all paragraphs that contain these keywords. The keywords can be substrings or words, groups of words, or individual letters or digits. If you need to apply heuristics to your search, you can, you can find paragraphs based on their alphanumeric content. You can turn on the "Symbol Set Filtering Mode" option and list the set of alphanumeric characters that you want the paragraphs to contain. Finally, you can use an advanced filtering method to find paragraphs by a regular expression. In this example, we are studying the chronology of 18th century American history. To quickly see the events that interest us (events that happened in 1765 and 1775), we enable the keyword search mode and enter these two years into the keyword option. As a result, we find two paragraphs describing the events of these years.
In this example, we use precise filtering, which extracts paragraphs by their alphanumeric content. We load eight paragraphs with emails and extract only those that contain lowercase letters a-z, the "at" sign "@", and a dot. In the output, we get two emails that don't contain numbers, underscores, or pluses.
In this example, we enable the advanced filtering method and use a regular expression as the search pattern. We enter the pattern "/.{90,}/" which finds those paragraphs of text that are longer than 90 characters. We also enable the "Print Opposite Matches" option, which reverses the pattern and returns paragraphs that are less than 90 characters long. We also use the "Don't Print Paragraph Copies" option to get rid of duplicate paragraphs.
